"Getting the ANGST out with Acrylics"

A fun filled two day workshop will teach the easy way to render details in minutes instead of hours by using inexpensive (or free) supplies. We will use newspaper, newsprint, toothbrushes, mat board, dried leaves, etc. Class will also experiment with new techniques to reveal textures. We will start with 2 still life objects and learn the advantage of taping and blocking.

INFO ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

There is nothing more forgiving than acrylics. They dry fast, can be corrected by erasing with gesso, they can be scrubbed like watercolor, glazed like oils, and they clean up with water! This 2 day work shop will cover simple methods to expedite the painting process. We will use newsprint, old rags, toothbrushes, masking tape, Xerox prints, etc. Why the angst? We can fix ANYTHING and try new ideas without conscience! We will work on several projects at once and try multiple techniques in the process.

SUPPLIES:

Glass palette no less the 8”x10” (free from most glass shops) If you have an acrylic palette, bring it.
9” x 12” or 10” x 14” canvas tablet (10-12 sheets per pad)
Dark blue masking tape (I will bring some.)
4 pieces of cardboard
14”x18” to tape projects onto
ACRYLIC paints: If you have a set of acrylics, bring them. If you do not, a simple set of crimson, ultramarine blue, yellow, and white will suffice. We can mix most hues with those basics. Burnt umber, burnt sienna, and yellow ochre are good additions as well. I will try to bring in some paints if necessary, but you will need to supply the white.
Gesso if you already have some, I will also bring some
BRUSHES: Most of you will have brushes, but if you do not, try inexpensive ones first! NEVER use your expensive sable, badger, or squirrel haired watercolor brushes with acrylics! They will be frazzled in seconds! Synthetic or bristle brushes work very well with acrylics.
Cheap toothbrush with no bells and whistles, flat. Flat natural hog’s hair paintbrushes (plain wooden handles, sold at Wal-Mart, Lowes, & craft stores cheap for $.85-$2 each ½”, 1”, 2”. (I use these constantly.)
And… Golden Taklon sells sets with both rounds and flats cheaply in every discount store. (Buy a set of the largest sized Golden Taklons you can.) Make sure your set includes both rounds and flats
OR…. Bristle brushes #6 round & 16 flat
If you have brushes, bring them in!
