In this workshop, we'll work with the three main types of acrylic paints from Golden:  fluids, regular acrylics and Open (the acrylic that stays wet 10 times longer than fast drying acrylic.) See which paint works best for the underpainting and how to establish the big shapes that set the composition.  Which colors do you choose for the underpainting?  Most of this underpainting gets covered over as the piece develops, but getting off to a strong start is essential.  We'll work quickly on 2 or 3 smaller panels, each time moving through the painting process of underpainting, dividing the large areas to created the image and pulling it all together with strong color choices.  You can bring you own reference material, but I'll have images that you can use as well.  We'll work with Acrylic Ground for Pastels added to the Open paint, this adds a bit of grit to the paint and is terrific to paint with......also giving you more working time in the later stages of the piece.  Whether you like realistic or abstract painting this class is about strong composition and the right paint and color as you develop the work.

This workshop shows you the difference between these techniques and when to use each in your work.  Glazes can be used to correct or enhance colors and can be created using several combinations of paint and mediums depending on the effect you're looking for.  Washes also create thin layers of color, but have a different look as no medium is used.  Then there are pours that give more dimension to the painting surface.  There are several mediums that work best for pours, creating thicker transparent layers than a glaze or wash.  We'll experiment with a variety of mediums, gels and paints so you can find the combinations you like best for your work. Several projects will lead you through the techniques working on paper and canvas panels.  Acrylic Glazing Liquid, pourable gels and mediums, Open medium for glazing will be covered. This is a great overview of materials for the right effect.
